Freedom Alley – Moments Burned Deep
Moments Burned Deep-Front Cover

Almost everyone residing on this spinning globe has a story to tell about what they did during the plague. Lot of people got hurt, lot of them hunkered down and many kept on as best they could. Strange year it was, my friends. Here’s hoping you made it through relatively unscathed.

My quarantine adventures actually began in early 2019 when my vision started to go. A lazy eye that I was born with decided to go on strike and the left one followed suit. I’ve had three eye surgeries and, God willing, I may be singing that fabulous Johnny Nash song real soon, but for a year and a half, I’ve lived in a world I can’t see. Walking nightmare.

When Covid hit and we all sheltered in place, a musician friend of mine started sending me Garageband projects…amazing in and of itself as Mark was never known to harness technology. I knew nothing about Garageband, but since Mark had gone to the trouble, I jumped in and learned what I could.

Mark kicked off with melodies and we each recorded our parts. Back and forth with refinements and we had it. With my bum eyes at the screen and a lot of patience, I was able to mix the songs down. Except for emails or a phone call, we didn’t get together, but in short order we created soemthing we knew we just had to share.

These songs have a little bit of everyone within the lines. I’ll be honest, never was very good at staying in touch and I know some folks who likely don’t mind. Also sure there’re many who’ve written me off as gently as they can. Still, from the early days of youth to the autumn days of age, I remember the warmth and love and laughter in the eyes and beautiful souls of those I’ve met and have had the good fortune to cross paths with…I have carried you around with me wherever I’ve gone.

So, listen to these songs and perhaps you’ll find a bit of yourself here and there. Certainly enjoyed making these tracks even though Mark and I both would rather have been sitting in a room together, creating sounds the old fashioned way. Limited by the insertion of technology, we didn’t create the music exactly as we wanted…but we came close and really think a song or two just might grab you.

Enjoy!
