Cosmic Soup’s On

Stirring the cosmic soup.

So far, so good. This website experiment I’ve been fooling around with has been a most satisfying release of thoughts and sounds out into the world. Mind you, there has been no agenda, only an enjoyable effort. Desire, in the hopes that the creation and sharing may please the inner soul. Along with the sharing, perhaps these thoughts will enlighten others with a bit of wit and wisdom. In the end, maybe exact a pinpoint of personal hope in this mysterious and vast universe before we travel to the land of beyond.

Never cared much about fame and glory, money or agendas that require you to step on toes to move forward. Don’t get me wrong, improving one’s station in life is a perpetual responsibility. Feels good when an answer, a solution, presents itself. When there is an accomplishment made, you feel a victory achieved. Still, the spotlight isn’t on the social self so much as shining on what emanates from within. The soul is a pretty big place and just as mysterious and vast as the universe it floats in. As far as we know, this big soul that inhabits us, belongs to us. The thoughts that take care of the mundane to the complex. The morality inside that guides our choices. Often, split-second choices that we must live with. Every bit of this state of being is ours to take care of, the onus is on us.

There is no exclusion of religious convictions either.

As we travel our distinctive paths and learn far more than we thought we would, we begin to understand how we fit in with the big puzzle of it all. From the beginning, we take in knowledge and it grows like a plant, needing nourishment and care from us. The fields are ripe for growing, our inner soil is fertile. The blessings of sun and rain from the muses inspire us and gently nudge us onward.

Knowledge by itself is only a thing, an intellectual property of the mind we tend to and cultivate like a good gardener. Yet, obviously, that is only part of who we are. While planting and cultivating our rows of knowledge, we must also nurture and establish the roots that will sustain us, constantly thin out the weeds that choke us. What we learn will help us plant better knowledge in the seasons to come.

Surely, there are times we must leave certain fields fallow, undisturbed so that we can increase our production. There are also times when what we have sown only produces enough harvest to get us through a short respite till spring comes and planting becomes essential once again. These moments and decisions are temporary and hold us close to the earth as we watch things grow. Other times, our harvest is bountiful and we fill our storage bins with ripe, new learning.

We harvest what we can and fill our cauldrons with our bounty. Our thoughts stir the pot and ideas simmer. The knowledge we gain stays with us, mingles and seeps into our soul and helps to guide our heart, point us in the right direction. Knowledge congeals with hope and desire to direct us in our dreams and helps us to realize possibilities we otherwise would never have had a wit about. In short, the ingredients we put into our soup become our nourishment to continue on.

All sounds insanely simple, this hope and dream, learn and do process, yet it is far more than that. Our entire lives are marked by paths of instability, loss, pain, and high drama. While these are indeed valuable learning tools, how much high drama can one man stand?

Better to learn and grow, let time, in moments or years, move the barometer of how you feel, point the compass in the general direction, season impulse with thought. Just as a good soup, rich and hearty in flavor, needs a proper simmering to produce its best taste, so, too, book learning and trial by fire must congeal with the blood of the soul, the spice of life in its truest form.
