Telephone Line

Sweet days gone by

Davis picked up the telephone line

A call was comin’ in

Birds were singin’ on the wire

The day was leanin’ in

Someone left the barn door open

The wind was blowin’ through

Just called to say the sun was shinin’

That’s all and how about you

Ain’t seen ya since I can’t recall

Couldn’t tell ya how long it’s been

Glad to hear you still got jaw

Good to know yer hangin’ in

What about Luke and his one-eyed dog

And Linda with the long brown hair

Good ole friends from long ago

Good to know they’re all still there

Days gone by

Days still here

Always remember

Those days so dear

Smithsonian, fiddle and banjo.

Junior and Jimmy singin’ songs

Makin’ those guitars hum

Grandma played the old banjo

Four fingers and her thumb

Family time on Sunday afternoons

Tellin’ jokes and shooting the breeze

Thank the Lord, Amen and pass the beans

Straight up if you please

Jimmie Dick tried to tease the law

Till the trigger caught the hair

Delia danced and dropped her drawers

She was always glad to share

Ridin’ Sweet Betsy on all the back roads

She’s a Chevy not a Ford

And we leaned against the fender boys

Till someone caught a chord

Days gone by

Days still here

Always remember

Those days so dear

Big Time Bob lived down the road

Full of beans never missed a meal

And something about that girl back home

And the way she made me feel

All these folks they come and go

Some are friends some a shame

Time will change in nothing flat

Good mem’ries stay the same

Just then the clouds went black

There was thunder on the way

Static was on the telephone line

Ran out of things to say

Don’t take a wooden nickel bud

Remember where ya been

Best head out and shut the barn

Take it easy my old friend

Days gone by

Days still here

Always remember

Those days so dear

Days gone by
