Books and Eyes

Holy Prism

Being an English major and an avid reader, memorizing rows of letters is pretty easy. During eye tests, while most of those letters were blurry, I recited the letters from memory. Sometimes, being smart just isn’t.

Once I started having prisms put into my glasses, I loved them and wanted more. Prisms actually bend the light, trick the eyes into working together and help reduce the double vision going on. With prisms, I believed I could use a camera, read to my heart’s content and see anything near or far.

Truth is, I got lots of headaches and my eyes got tired a lot. As far as a camera, I used one for work, but should have never held one in my hands. Eventually, I realized I could not see clearly enough to take a picture. I was more lucky at getting a shot than having an eye for photography. Sad state of affairs.

Sincere apologies to my friend and one-time co-worker for not sharing the load. Sorry Kelly, I know that made things harder for you. Then again, with my clout I got us a couple of decent rigs to work with, eh? When I retired, aren’t you glad I didn’t pack that one rig to come home? Yeah, me too. About a year after retiring, I finally realized not only could I not think straight, I actually couldn’t see straight.
