Some Relief and a Sigh
Recovery back on Broadway for my mom was slow. We took baby steps and thanked the Lord for intervention. Many, many families fared much worse and we knew how fortunate we were. We had tele-visits with her doctor, visits with home health nurses and while the walk was much slower because of Covid, she was definitely on the right path.
This whole, ugly adventure living with Covid dramatically has shown just how fragile life is. The pain that our family endured millions of other families also endured. The experience has allowed me to better understand, appreciate and empathize with the suffering others have experienced or are going through.
So much has changed because of this virus. At a time when compassion and an uplifting human spirit is needed, we have politicized life, made it black and white with no middle ground. The ugly nature of mankind appears to be in the drivers seat. Sad reflections of the polarized world we live in, a global community in solitary confinement.
By now, we should have learned we are not alone, that we must rely on others as much as we rely on ourselves. Surviving viral outbreaks, staying out of conflict, and taking care of ourselves as fellow citizens are all tall orders and the battle rages. Yet, the determination to work together can overcome many obstacles. We only have ourselves to blame if we can’t get it done. We’ll end up living in quarantine, in isolation, as opposed to learning to live together.
